Twilight Comics

Stephenie Meyer made a tremendous impact on the world when she released her first novel, Twilight. The book lead to three others, which were quickly followed by film adaptations that broke box office records each time a new one was released. Initially written for an audience of teenage girls, the saga has ended up with a fan base that encompasses all ages. Now the phenomena has spread to the animated world.

In March of 2010, Twilight: The Graphic Novel Volume I was released by Yen Press. Korean artist Young Kim has done a beautiful job of animating the characters in a way that resembles what readers may have pictured in their minds while reading the original novel. The anime do not resemble the actors in the movies; they are more like a combination of imagination and actual looks.

Author Stephenie Meyer played a huge role in the creation of the comic book version of her book and claims that it took her back to the time when she was first writing the novel, before the entire whirlwind started. She didn’t do the actual writing, but worked with the script writers closely. She reviewed each story board and requested at times that certain scenes, such as when Bella tells Edward that she failed biology, be included. She also helped keep the tone of the graphic novel in line with the tone of the original book and reported that it was a process that she enjoyed tremendously.
