Kristen Stewart goes from Vampire to Snow White

Kristen Stewart, beloved Vampire from The Twilight saga, may be trading in her teeth for a more innocent life with seven dwarves. Stewart is set to play the title role of Snow White in the 2012 production of Snow White and The Huntsman. The film, written by Evan Daugherty and directed by Rupert Sanders, will also star Charlize Theron as Stewart’s wicked step-mother. Joel Edgerton may play the role of the huntsman, though actors Viggo Mortenson and Hugh Jackman were also considered for the part.

Shooting for the film is rumored to begin in September. Daughery’s version of Snow White will have to compete with another film based on the same fairytale, starring Julia Roberts and Lily Collins (daughter of musician Phil Collins). Yet the choice of Stewart for the leading role will draw a large fanbased toward the Daughtery movie and may help it win out over the Roberts/Collins version.

Stewart’s Twilight co-star Taylor Lautner is dating Collins, but says that he does not feel any need to pick one version of Snow White over the other, because the two films are very different adaptations. According to Lautner, the Collins version of snow white is more atmospheric and old-worldish, whereas the Stewart version is more action packed.

Stewart’s transformation from vampire to the more innocent Snow White may help her expand her horizons. Instead of consistently being stuck in the same types of roles, playing the part of Snow White will show that Stewart is a versatile actress. This, along with her portrayal of Joann Jet may help her win acclaim from untouched areas.

One of the biggest trends in Hollywood these days is the re-telling of old classics. The producers of Snow White and The Huntsman wanted to tell a story of Snow White that departed from the classic telling and the old Disney version, by adding dynamic action and acting. Stewart was the right choice for this kind of portrayal. As Bella, she infused the Twightlight Saga with life. She looks set to do the same to Snow White and the Huntsman.
